Mallorca is a name derived from the Latin word, insula maior which means the “Larger Island”. It is one of the Balearic Islands located in the Mediterranean Sea. Its neighboring islands include the islands of Formentera, Ibiza and Minorca (“the smaller island”). Palma is its capital and in the year 1983, it also became the capital of the whole Balearic Islands  autonomous community.

Since 1950, tourism has transformed the simple island into a center of attraction for foreign visitors mostly from the countries of United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Ireland and Germany. And since the visitors double every year, it has also attracted employment from mainland Spain and other parts of the world.
